Singapore Youth Olympic Games Sculpture Competition

2010

This project was a design competition entry to the Singapore Youth Olympic Games sculpture competition. The sculpture is developed through the 5-ring Olympic symbol. The rings are 'unlocked' and opened in plan, and 5 curved plates begin to extrude and transform upwards. The resultant 'sheaths' are placed in conjunction with each other, so while the rings are now opened, the space between the forms are still interlocked through their adjacency.

This essentially allows the viewer to negotiate the space in-between, thereby placing him or herself within the sculpture. The human experience situated within the sculpture becomes a conceptual interpretation of the values of the Olympic ideals.

Unbuilt work.
